With another pair of concertos by Bach and Beethoven, this Tonkünstler programme was a counterpart to the November concerts in which Christoph von Dohnányi had made his debut with the orchestra. On that occasion the young Alfred Brendel had been soloist in the Beethoven; his place was taken here by another, distinguished Viennese pianist of an earlier generation, Paul Badura-Skoda, who would pioneer the exploration of this repertoire with instruments of the era in the coming decades.
