Having returned to their home at the Royal Festival Hall, the Philharmonia and Christoph von Dohnányi reprised the Second Piano Concerto of Brahms which they had given with Yefim Bronfman in their recent residency at the Musikverein in Vienna. ‘With this concerto in particular,’ Bronfman remarked in a 2011 interview, ‘I think of natural landscapes, mountains and green valleys and beautiful vistas, of this incredible grandeur. There may not be a story to the piece necessarily, but there’s this sense of poetic narrative running through it.’
