Philharmonia Orchestra, De Montfort Hall, September 18, 2007

Soloists: Bronfman, Yefim (piano)
Programme:
Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 | Strauss R: Ein Heldenleben

The Philharmonia Orchestra opened the 2007-8 season not at their home in the Royal Festival Hall but one of their associate venues, in the Midlands city of Leicester. Prior to a three-night residency in Vienna, they were joined by Yefim Bronfman for Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto. In the second half they played Ein Heldenleben, which was recorded by Signum at a later concert in the RFH, full of ‘high energy and impact,’ according to Classics Today, ‘along with rich sonority and vivid detail.’
