With this concert of Ligeti, Wagner, Schumann and Beethoven, Christoph von Dohnányi returns to the Orchestre de Paris to which he was artistic adviser between 1998 and 2000. Joining him as soloist in Schumann’s late and introspective Cello Concerto is the Austrian-born Kian Soltani, Dohnányi’s junior by 60 years. He joins a distinguished line of cellists to have worked on the concerto with the conductor, among them Zara Nelsova, Janos Starker, Heinrich Schiff and most recently Yo-Yo Ma, at the Tanglewood Festival in 2011.
