Cleveland Orchestra, Severance Hall, May 9, 1986
Soloists: | Majeske, Daniel (violin) |
- Programme:
- Bartók: Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta | Sibelius: Violin concerto
Although Isaac Stern was the soloist in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto for the surrounding subscription concerts, the Cleveland Orchestra’s leader Daniel Majeske took centre stage at this matinee concert, where he played the Sibelius Concerto; one of more than a hundred such appearances as soloist with the orchestra during an association that lasted from joining them in 1955, through his appointment as concertmaster in 1969 to his death from cancer, at the age of just 61, in 1993.
