Strauss R: Salome

Having completed a three-concert residency at the 1992 Salzburg Festival with the Cleveland Orchestra, Christoph von Dohnányi turned to another orchestra with whom he has long enjoyed a fruitful relationship, the Wiener Philharmoniker, and in the music of a composer closely associated with them both, Richard Strauss. Two years later, they recorded Salome for Decca: ‘To hear every note of the score in immaculate digital sound,’ noted Gramophone, ‘consult Christoph von Dohnányi's 1994 Decca recording with the Vienna Philharmonic… The maturing Bryn Terfel creates a near-definitive Jochanaan, at once vocally splendid and fully human.’
