Having completed a three-concert residency at the 1992 Salzburg Festival with the Cleveland Orchestra, Christoph von Dohnányi turned to another orchestra with whom he has long enjoyed a fruitful relationship, the Wiener Philharmoniker, and in the music of a composer closely associated with them both, Richard Strauss.
