Cerha: Baal

Outside Austria, Friedrich Cerha (b.1926) is still best known for his completion of Berg’s Lulu in its intended three-act form, but he is a prolific and powerfully expressive composer in his own right. A commission for the Salzburg Festival which took six years to write, Baal remains his magnum opus, based on the play by Bertolt Brecht.
