At the centre of this intensely Austro-German subscription programme with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Christoph von Dohnányi conducted an orchestral suite from The Bassarids, an opera in symphonic form by Hans Werner Henze, which the conductor had premiered on his debut at the Salzburg Festival a full 40 years earlier.
