Other Performances:
Vienna, Wiener Musikverein: October 18, 1979
Programme:
Webern: Passacaglia | Schumann: Piano concerto | Strawinsky: Petrouchka

The Georgian pianist Eliso Virsaladze was the soloist in performances of Schumann’s Piano Concerto given by the Wiener Symphoniker and Christoph von Dohnányi in October 1979. These subscription concerts opened with Webern’s Passacaglia – the finest Op.1 in all music? – and concluded with the reduced version of Petrushka which Stravinsky made in 1947 from his 1911 original, both in order to make the ballet playable by ensembles of more standard resources and to keep his music in copyright.
